Switchboard Safety Checklist

A practical checklist for customers looking at an older or confusing switchboard.

What a modern switchboard should make easier

A switchboard should be safe to operate, clearly labelled and suitable for the loads connected to the property. It should not be a mystery box that nobody understands.

Do not remove switchboard covers yourself. Visual checks should be limited to what is safe and accessible from the outside.

When an upgrade is commonly discussed

Older boards with ceramic fuses, poor labelling, limited room, no safety switches or repeated nuisance tripping often deserve a professional review. A switchboard upgrade can also be part of EV charger installation, renovation work, appliance upgrades or adding new circuits.
